ASSET ALIGNMENT

HOME > LEGAL SERVICES > ASSET ALIGNMENT

Congratulations! You’ve signed your estate plan documents! Now what?

The purpose of your estate plan is to protect and provide for your family after you are gone. The documents themselves, though, are only the foundation of a successful estate plan

Now it’s time to review the assets you own, how they are titled, and who the beneficiaries are to ensure the estate plan you’ve so thoughtfully crafted will be as effective and efficient as possible. This process is especially important if your plan includes a Trust.

Do you have a life insurance policy, retirement accounts, investments, own business interests, or property? These are just a few examples of assets that may need to be updated to align with, and support, your new estate plan. Different updates, and mechanisms to effect those changes, may be needed depending on the asset type. Keeping clear records of this information, including change confirmations, will also help your loved ones when the time comes to implement your plan.

How We Can Help

Let our office guide you through this process! Life always brings changes, and your estate plan should reflect those changes. Our goal in providing asset alignment services is to go the extra mile for our clients in not only providing the best documents possible, but also seeing you through these final steps necessary to have a truly complete estate plan.

A well-prepared estate plan will give you control over your property both before and after your death, and will allow you to take care of yourself and your loved ones if you become disabled.

For most people, assets are held long-term and don’t change very often. The initial steps of aligning your assets may be sufficient and only need to be reviewed every 3-5 years along with your estate plan documents.

Since we do not believe in one-size-fits-all services, we have also developed the Legacy Protection Plan © as an annual subscription service to assist participating clients in ensuring their assets remain properly aligned, as well as providing some additional plan-related benefits. This program is intended to foster ongoing communication so we can adjust your plan when necessary and keep all your account information in one place.

However, when you meet with an attorney who specializes in Wills, Trusts, and Estates, you receive much more than just a document. The attorney is able to understand your end goals, ask pertinent questions you may not have considered, provide information to help you make informed decisions, and offer legally-sound recommendations to ensure your plan works the way you intend. Crafting an estate plan tailored to your personal situation may be more expensive on the front-end, but in most cases results in a cheaper, smoother process later for your loved ones.
